Special Needs ● Special Education Compliance ● Child Advocacy

Under federal law and California state law, public, private and charter schools that receive federal funds must provide an education to students whether or not they have a learning disability. At the education law office Steven A. Greenburg, we are dedicated to ensuring special education law compliance.

If your child is not getting the special education services he or she needs, we can help. Contact Steven A. Greenburg to schedule an appointment. The telephone number of our Santa Cruz office is 831-458-9900.

Special Education Compliance

Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973 prohibits schools from discriminating against children with learning disabilities or denying children access to an education. In addition, the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA) requires schools to dedicate resources for children with special educational needs.

Individualized Education Program (IEPs)

The IDEA requires public schools to develop appropriate Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) for each child eligible for special education services. Each student's IEP reflects his or her individual needs and the specific special education and related services to which he or she is entitled.

The IEP process is complex, and each phase has its own procedures and deadlines. If you fail to meet these requirements and deadlines, your child may be denied the services he or she requires.

We have over 15 years of experience helping parents fight for the services to which their children are entitled. We know the requirements and timelines of the IEP process. We can help you request eligibility for special education or obtain the services your child needs in a timely manner. We can also advocate for you at IEP meetings.

Once an IEP has been developed, the IEP team will meet with the parents to develop an action plan to provide the services and accommodations the student needs. We regularly attend these meetings with parents to advocate for their rights. An IEP is reviewed at least annually, and attorney Greenburg or his advocate will attend the IEP meetings with the parents and adequately prepare a strategy for each meeting.

One-Time Consultations

We also offer parents a one-time consultation option as an alternative to ongoing representation. We can meet with you to discuss your child's educational needs and determine if special education would benefit your child. We will advise you about the procedure as well as your child's rights in the hearings and at school.
